Marriage Story

Apart from reading fairytales, watching movies and surfing the web, Indians have a favourite pass time – gossiping, narrating and finding loopholes in every other family member and neighbour’s marriage stories. If you belong to that category of family where the grandfather used to tell stories over a lantern, then I’m sure you must have heard his very own marriage story with the grandmother.
As they say, no two marriage stories are alike. Every marriage story has its own set of protagonists, plot twists, climax and catastrophes.

In India, the most debated and currently in a shaky position are arranged marriages. The modern youth have more and more educated and responsible and have broken free from the ancient tradition of matchmaking by an agent, family member or parents. Like every other decision, today’s youth are writing their own marriage story.
Sometimes you get to hear your parents say- “Did you know that ours is an arranged marriage story, but we were in love with each other from the very first sight?” Sounds confusing right? Just a fancy statement used to make arranged marriage stories sound a lot better.
Love- marriage stories are in trend now. It fact, the marriage stories of this genre are branching out with more and more categories being added to it. Same-sex marriage stories, inter-caste marriage stories, inter-religion marriage stories, marriage stories of two unimaginable celebrities to marriage stories of much-awaited famous people are making daily headlines.
The latest love marriage story that is dreamy and has taken the internet by storm is that of Tollywood actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya. Theirs is an inter-religion marriage story where the bride is a Christian and the groom is a Hindu. And guess what is the best part in their story – they get tell two marriage stories – one Hindu and the other Christian.

The debate as to which marriage story is better – love marriage or arranged marriage – will never end. Both marriage stories have their unique set of problems and benefits. What matters the most in any marriage story in the fact that there should be true love and a meaningful partner who will stay till the end of the story.
